Common situations.
The popup says no YouTube video is open
Open a recorded video at youtube.com/watch, then open SpeedSync again. Refresh a tab that was already open when the extension was installed or reloaded. Shorts, live videos, mobile YouTube, and embedded players are outside this release.
Captions are unavailable
Choose original-language captions in the YouTube player and try Retry. If needed, choose Load YouTube captions so the player loads its current timed track. A video with no usable timed captions keeps its original playback speed.
The WPM target is not exact
The target is bounded by your minimum and maximum speech speeds. Caption timing, missing words, translations, dubbed audio, and rolling auto-captions can also affect the estimate. Open More controls to inspect the limits.
Gaps are moving too quickly
Set Caption gaps to 1x or 1.5x. Learning guard also preserves brief caption pauses up to 1.5 seconds. A caption gap is not proof of silence, so choose a setting that remains comfortable.
I have a matching transcript
Open Have a transcript? and choose a timed VTT, SRT, JSON, or YouTube JSON3 file under 5 MB. Plain text has no timestamps and cannot drive playback. Imports apply only to the current video and clear on navigation or refresh.
Another speed control is fighting SpeedSync
Disable the other speed-control extension or stop changing YouTube's speed while SpeedSync is enabled. Turn SpeedSync off to restore the playback rate and pitch setting it captured before taking control.
I want to clear local data
Open Chrome's extension settings for SpeedSync and clear its stored data, or uninstall the extension. Captions and imported transcripts are held in page memory and clear when the page lifecycle ends.
